Scottish Conservative Banff and Buchan Candidate Alex Johnstone, has slammed the First Minister for her failure to attend the service at St Paul’s Cathedral to honour those who fell in Afghanistan. Commenting, Mr Johnstone said “Scotland has a very proud military tradition, and many in Banff and Buchan have answered the call to military service and defended their country. When the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition all feel it is appropriate to attend such a very important service, then it is only right that the First Minister of Scotland should do the same. ” “I appreciate that a representative was sent because she was speaking at a conference on local authorities, but really, the Local Government Minister should have gone to the conference, and the First Minister should have to St Pauls.” “If the First Minister declines to attend a service that honours our fallen heroes, but subsequently finds the time, as some media have reported, to go on about her kitchen on social media, then she really should take a moment to reflect on her priorities. Our service men and women, and their families, deserve better than this.”
